Bond, Release, and Sentencing Information

PUBLIC INFORMATION

Rappahannock Regional Jail is only authorized to give out the following information on currently incarcerated inmates:

name
charge
court
bonding information

Bonding Procedures:

Bonding is available:

7 days a week

If an inmate is eligible for bond, bond may be posted in a variety of ways:

Cash - posted directly with the Magistrate or Court
Property - Contact the local Magistrate for Property Bond requirements
Bail bondsman - Names/phone numbers posted in the Jail's 24-hour lobby or may be viewed in the local phone directory, yellow pages.

If a bail bondsman is used, the inmate will not be processed for release until all parties are on premises and the bondsman supplies the required bonding paperwork.

All inmates are entered in VCIN/NCIC prior to release to determine any detainers.

Court Date/Release Dates:

For security reasons, RRJ will not give out:

Court dates
Release dates

Court and release dates are provided to the inmate, who may pass this information to their friends and family if they so desire.

RRJ releases time served inmates on the date of satisfaction of their sentence, regardless of weekends or holidays.

Time Served Releases:

RRJ releases time served inmates at 0800 on the date of completion of their sentence.

Victim/Witness Notification:

If you are the victim of a currently incarcerated inmate and wish to be notified of his/her release date, you are required to file an application with the local Victim/Witness Coordinator. The Victim/Witness Coordinators' numbers are:

Their offices are located within the local Commonwealth Attorney Offices. The Victim/Witness Coordinator will then send the proper forms to RRJ for notification purposes.

Sentencing Guidelines/Dept. of Corrections vs. Local

RRJ follows the sentencing guidelines as established by the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Local Inmates (those receiving sentences totaling 12 months or less) are computed by RRJ.
State inmates (inmates receiving sentences totaling over 12 months) are computed by the Virginia Department of Corrections.
"B" felonies (felonies committed prior to 01/01/95 and misdemeanor sentences are computed at approximately 50%.
"A" felonies (felonies committed on or after 01/01/95 are computed at approximately 87%. Pre-trial credit will be reviewed and will be given, if applicable, to the current sentences the inmate is presently serving.

Legal Update Sheet

Inmates sentenced to the Department of Corrections should receive a Legal Update Sheet within 90 to 120 days after final sentencing of all charges from Court and Legal, Department of Corrections
Legal Update Sheet will give the inmate a state number and an estimated release date
The Jail receives a copy of the Legal Update Sheet at the same time the inmate does.
The Jail will forward a copy of the update sheet to the inmate upon receipt from the Department of Corrections.
